  • Age: You must have been born before 5 May 1953. This means you must be at least 70 years old on the qualifying date (Monday, 19 September 2023).
  • Residency: You must have lived in the UK for at least one day during the qualifying week from 18 to 24 September 2023. This applies regardless of your current residency status.
  • You don’t receive one of the following benefits for the whole week from 26 June to 24 September 2023:
  • Live alone or only with a spouse, partner, or other qualified person

Applying for Fuel Allowance Payment in 2024 

To apply for the fuel allowance payment in 2024, follow these steps: 

Check Eligibility:

  • Residency: Legally and habitually resident in Ireland.
  • Age: 70 years or over (under 70 use NFS1 form).
  • Means Test: Income must fall below specific limits.
  • Heating Needs: Unable to afford heating fully from household resources.
  • Living Situation: Alone or with other qualified persons.

Get Application Form:

  • Over 70: Use the NFS2 form from post office, DSP office, or call 0818 200 400.
  • Under 70: Use NFS1 form from the same sources.

Complete and Submit:

  • Fill out the form with PPS number, household details, and financial information.
  • Send completed form and required documents to the relevant address based on age (see official sources).

  • Factors:
    • Age: Payment amount depends on your age.
    • Living situation: Living alone or with someone ineligible affects the amount.
    • Additional payment:
  • Pensioner Cost of Living Payment: £150 to £300 for those born before 1957.
  • Claim deadline: March 31, 2024.
  • Most eligible individuals receive the payment automatically.
  • If you haven’t received it by March 31, 2024, you can still claim it.
