You can check the status of your retirement or disability Social Security application online through your My Social Security account. Once you login into your My Social Security Account and within the current status section, you will be able to see where you are at in the process and an estimated timeframe for approval. 

There are steps to check your Social Security Status online:

  • First login to My Social Security Account. 
  • If you don’t have your account then create a My Social Security Account.
  • Then scroll down to the Your Benefit Applications tab on the home page screen.
  • Select the View Details under the More Info section.
  • Then check your Social Security Status in the Current Status section. 
  • Once you confirm that your application was approved then your benefits will be on the way shortly. 
  • Your Application status shows your Date of filling, current location, servicing office location, scheduled hearing date and time and re-entry numbers for incomplete applications.

Social Security Amounts

Social Security benefits are typically computed using average indexed monthly earnings. This average summarises up to 35 years of workers indexed earnings. The formula used to compute the PIA reflects changes in the general wage levels, as measured by the national average wage.

Social Security Payment Schedule

Social Security payments typically occur on the third of each month, as well as on the second, third and the fourth Wednesday each month.
