In the mortgage forbearance case, the bank was accused of putting the home loans of many customers in forbearance status between March 2020 and December 2021 without informing them. It affected their credit score, and they were unable to refinance the loan.
A settlement of $185 million (about Rs 1,540 crore) has been reached in this case. In this, an amount of $69 million was sent as automatic payment to all class members, and the rest is reserved for those who filled out claim forms for additional damages.
At the same time, in the call recording case, customer calls were recorded without permission between 2014 and 2023. It was a privacy violation. On this, the bank has accepted a settlement of $19.5 million (about Rs 162 crore). People whose calls were recorded can get compensation ranging from $86 to a maximum of $5,000 per call.
Who is getting the payment?
People who were Wells Fargo mortgage customers and whose loans were put into forbearance without notice between March 1, 2020, and December 31, 2021, are covered under this settlement. Such customers have been sent automatic payments without any application. The payment is being sent in the form of a check or direct deposit from March 2025.
The class related to call recording includes people who lived in California between 2014 and 2023 and whose calls were recorded without information. These people had to fill out a form, which was accepted until April 11, 2025. Class members will be paid based on the information they provide.
What to do if payment is delayed?
If you have filled out the claim form on time or are eligible for automatic payment but still haven’t received the money yet, don’t worry. Sometimes there may be a slight delay in the banking system or mail delivery. You should check the email or website from where you filled out the claim form.
If you don’t receive any information even after some time, contact the Wells Fargo Settlement Administrator. You will have to provide your name, address, and other necessary information so that they can tell you the status of your case.
What if you haven’t filled out the claim form?
If you haven’t filled out the claim form in a call recording case, you will not get paid. Because in this case, payment is being made only when you actively apply for a claim.
However, most customers in mortgage forbearance cases are getting automatic payments, and there was no need to apply, except for those who wanted to make a separate claim for additional damages.
