The Social Security Administration (SSA) has officially confirmed the payment schedule for April 2026. Millions of Americans receiving retirement benefits, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), and survivor benefits will receive their April 2026 payments on three separate Wednesdays this month — April 8, 15, and 22, 2026 — depending on their date of birth.

Social Security April 2026 Payment Schedule
Social Security retirement, SSDI, and survivor benefit payments in April 2026 follow the SSA’s standard Wednesday schedule, determined by the beneficiary’s birth date (or the deceased worker’s birth date for survivor benefits):
- April 8, 2026 (2nd Wednesday): Beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of any month.
- April 15, 2026 (3rd Wednesday): Beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th of any month.
- April 22, 2026 (4th Wednesday): Beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st of any month.
Note: People who began receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997, as well as those who receive both Social Security and SSI, may be on a different payment schedule and could receive their benefits on April 3, 2026.
For direct deposit recipients, funds typically arrive within 4 hours of release. Paper check recipients should allow 2–3 business days for delivery via USPS.

SSI April 2026 Payment Date
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are typically issued on the 1st of each month. Since May 1, 2026 falls on a Friday, SSI recipients will receive their May payment in late April. However, the standard April SSI payment was released on April 1, 2026.

Social Security April 2026 Payment Amounts — Are There Any Changes?
The SSA confirmed there are no mid-year changes to Social Security payment rates for April 2026. Your April payment will be the same amount you received in March 2026. Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) are applied annually in January — not mid-year.
As a reference, the 2026 COLA-adjusted maximum monthly benefit amounts (effective since January 2026) are:
- Retirement benefit (full retirement age): Up to $4,018/month
- SSDI (disability): Up to $1,620/month on average; maximum $4,018/month
- SSI (individual): Up to $967/month
- SSI (couple): Up to $1,450/month
Be aware: any social media posts claiming an additional $100–$200 April increase are false. The SSA has not announced any out-of-cycle payment increases. Do not provide personal information to any third-party portals making such claims.
What if Your April 2026 Social Security Payment Is Late?
Delays can occasionally occur due to banking system issues or USPS backlogs. Here’s what to do:
- Wait up to 72 hours after the scheduled date for direct deposit delays.
- Allow up to 7 business days if you receive a paper check.
