Quebec Packaged Bread Class Action Settlement

The Quebec Superior Court approved the National settlement agreement on 23 July 2025 for the national class action settlement related to packaged bread. The lawsuit was filed against Loblaw/ George Weston for participating in the industry-wide price fixing of packaged bread across the nation from 2001 to 2021.

The settlement was approved by the Ontario and Quebec courts, respectively, and now the claim process has begun for Canadians who have purchased the packaged bread for personal use during the class period. 

The deadline to file the Quebec packaged bread class action settlement is before 12 December 2025. The settlement fund for the Canada packaged bread settlement is $500 million, where 78% is used for Ontario action and 22% for Quebec action.

Who can claim the Quebec packaged bread class action settlement?

If you are a Quebec resident, you can check the packaged bread settlement class members’ conditions below:

  • Your age should be 18 or above when you submit the claim. 
  • You must have purchased the packaged bread product or other bread alternative produced or distributed by the defendant, but it should not be limited to buns, rolls, bagged buns, naan bread, English muffins, wraps, bagels, pitas, and tortillas, excluding frozen bread, which is sold during the class period from 01 January 2001 to 19 December 2019. 
  • You must be living in Quebec as of 31 December 2021 and must not submit the opt-out form. 
  • You have received the $25 Loblaw Card under the Loblaw card program in 2018/2019. 

How much will you receive through the Quebec Packaged Bread settlement?

As per the packaged bread class action settlement, the net settlement fund from the $500 million settlement will be used for the businesses’ and individuals’ payments. Those who purchased the packaged bread for personal use will use the payment from 99.5% of consumer funds. 

The class members must have received the payment of $96 million through the Loblaw Card of $25. According to the settlement agreement, the Quebec residents who have received the Loblaw card and submitted a valid claim can receive the increased amount up to $25. 

The increment amount will be possible only if the amount exceeds the $5 minimum payment limit as per the distribution protocol. The amount for each valid claimant has not been determined yet; hence, the payout can be different for the claimants based on the packaged bread they have bought during the class period.

  • Next, you should click the Submit Claim button and read the terms & conditions listed on the page.
  • Next, click the continue button and start entering your name, email address, phone number, DOB, address, post code, and others.
  • Now, select if you have received the Loblaw card or not, and select the payment method. 
  • Next, tick the acknowledgement and declaration and submit the claim form.

Once you file the claim form, you can expect the administration to begin the payment distribution process, which can take 6 to 12 months.
