  • Visit the official Universal Credit website (https://www.gov.uk/sign-in-universal-credit) and click “Create a new account.” 
  • Within your account, navigate to the “Make a Claim” section. This will guide you through entering your details and answering questions about your circumstances.
  • You’ll need to provide evidence of your identity (passport, driving licence) and residency. The process can be done online by uploading scans or photos.
  • You may need to upload documents like payslips, bank statements, or proof of housing costs.
  • Once you have  reviewed and confirmed all the information, submit your online claim.

You have 28 days to complete your claim after creating your account, you can apply for an advance payment on your first Universal Credit payment if you need urgent financial support while your claim is processed.
