The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant is a temporary financial assistance program administered by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) for unemployed South Africans between the ages of 18 and 59 who have little or no income. Around 8 million people receive this benefit monthly.
Update (March 31, 2026): The February 2026 SRD payment was processed between February 23–28, 2026. The April 2026 SRD payment is scheduled for two windows: 23–24 April 2026 and 29–30 April 2026. Read on for full April 2026 SRD details.
SASSA SRD April 2026 Payment Dates
SASSA has officially confirmed that COVID-19 SRD grant payments for April 2026 will be processed in two separate windows:
- Window 1: 23–24 April 2026
- Window 2: 29–30 April 2026
Unlike permanent grants (Older Persons, Disability, Children’s), SRD payments are not issued on a single date because each application must be individually verified. Payments are processed in batches throughout the month, and each recipient’s exact date depends on when their verification is completed.
To find your exact SRD payment date for April 2026, log in to your account at srd.sassa.gov.za.
SASSA SRD April 2026 Payment Amount
The SRD grant amount remains at R370 per month for April 2026. No changes to the SRD payment rate have been announced for April 2026. The increases announced from April 2026 apply only to permanent grants (Older Persons, Disability, Foster Child, Child Support).
Ignore social media claims: Posts claiming the SRD has increased to R400 or higher are false and are used by fraudsters to steal personal information. Never share your ID number, banking details, or phone number with unofficial sources.
