American Express Co. and American Express Travel Related Services have agreed to a $17.5 million settlement that will benefit people who have a Visa, Mastercard, or Discover nonrewards credit card and made payments at certain major retailers in Illinois between January 29, 2016, and June 1, 2022.
$17.5M Visa Mastercard Discover Settlement
A class action lawsuit was filed against the American Express Co. and American Express Travel Related Services Co. Inc. with allegations it engaged in anti-competitive business practices, which made it harder for other payment networks to compete fairly. To resolve this matter, the company has agreed to a settlement, but they haven’t accepted any wrongdoing.

The settlement has received preliminary approval from the court, and the hearing for the final approval is scheduled for June 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, where the court will decide if the proposed settlement of $17.5M is fair to benefit the affected individuals.
If any class member has any objection related to the $17.5M Visa, Mastercard, and Discover settlement, he or she can raise it on or before April 29, 2026. Note that to get a payout from the settlement, it is mandatory to file the claim form. It can be filed online or offline; the due date for the same is set as May 19, 2026.
Who will get a payout from the $17.5M Visa, Mastercard, and Discover settlement?
The payment from the $17.5M Visa, Mastercard, and Discover settlement will be received by each individual who meets all the following requirements:

- You had a Visa, Mastercard, or Discover credit card.
- Your card did not offer rewards (no cashback or points) and no annual fee.
- Your billing address was in Illinois.
- Purchases were made between January 29, 2016, and June 1, 2022.
- You submit a valid claim form before the deadline.

How much will be received from the $17.5M Visa, Mastercard, and Discover settlement?
The amount of $17.5 million is going to be distributed among all the claimants after deducting the attorney fee and administration costs, which are likely to be around $8 million. Each class member who files a claim will get an equal amount on a pro rata basis.
It is expected that around $8.5 million will be distributed among the class; if there are a total of 100,000 claims, then each claimant is expected to get $85 only. The actual per-person payout amount will be made public once the payment from the settlement begins.

- Go to the $17.5M Visa Mastercard Discover settlement website at https://amexantitrust.com/.
- Navigate to the menu bar and click on the ‘File a Claim’ option.
- Click on the Claim Form button and access the dashboard.
- Enter your class member ID and PIN and click on the Login button.
- Fill in your name, mobile number, email address, and other details.
- Choose the direct deposit option for payout and provide the bank account details accurately.
- Review your claim form and click on the Submit button to file.
When to expect the Visa, Mastercard, and Discover settlement?
The payout for the $17.5M Visa, Mastercard, and Discover settlement will begin shortly after the final approval. It is expected that the settlement will get final approval in July 2026.
If the court approves this settlement without any appeal by the expected date, the payout will be received by all class members by October 2026. An appeal may delay the payout unexpectedly.
