The US streaming giant Tubi has agreed to pay a $19.99 million settlement fund to settle the class action lawsuit alleging the streaming service violated the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA). The people who use the Tubi streaming service can check the settlement details here from eligibility to benefits.
Tubi Class Action Settlement
Last year, an individual who used the Tubi streaming service filed a lawsuit against the Tubi Video streaming service in 17th Judicial Court, Winnebago County, Illinois. The lawsuit claims the platform has disclosed the information of users to third parties without their consent and violates the federal law VPPA.
The violation of VPPA could have led to a serious threat to personal identification information misuse and financial loss, though no such case was reported.
The defendant denies any wrongdoings and the violation of VPPA, and neither the court has decided who is wrong or right in the class action lawsuit, however, the defendant proposes to settle the case with a settlement of $19.9 million. Both parties have agreed to the settlement and the court has preliminarily approved the settlement fund.
The Court-authorized notice for the proposed class action settlement is released for the class members. The eligible people who wish to receive compensation from the Tubi Video Streaming Settlement can submit their claim by 28 Nov 2024.

Who is eligible for the Tubi Class Action Settlement?
The US people who meet the following eligibility requirements for the Tubi Class Action settlement are the class members of the settlement:
- You have used the Tubi Video Streaming Service anytime during the class period between 23 June 2021 and 26 August 2024.
Exclusions:
- The families and staff of the Judge looking over the Tubi class action lawsuit are excluded from the settlement.
- The parent, subsidiary, predecessors, or any entity of Defendant, employees are excluded from the settlement.
- The legal representatives, successors, or assigns of the class action are excluded.
- People who filed for exclusion on time will be excluded for a lifetime from the settlement.
Tubi Class Action Settlement Payout
The class members would receive compensation for their information use without their consent by the defendant through cash payments. However, before the $19.99 million settlement will be distributed among the class members, it will be first used for the payments:
- Litigation cost
- Settlement notice and expenses
- Service Award for plaintiff
- Attorney’s fees and cost
The amount for the above expenses is not revealed yet, but it will be first approved by the court during the final hearing to decide the fairness and reasonability of the settlement. The expenses will be deducted from the gross settlement fund and the remaining amount will be disbursed among the class members.
The Tubi Class action settlement payout per person will depend on many factors, such as the number of valid claims filed and the above-mentioned expenses. Hence, the cash benefit per person cannot be estimated now, as we don’t know how many claims are submitted and the other factors information.
How to claim the Tubi Class Action Settlement?
People in the US who have used Tubi Settlement during the class period must have received the notice as well regarding the settlement and wish to claim the settlement can submit their Tubi class action claim form through the following options:
- Online: You should visit the Tubi Video Streaming settlement claim website at https://www.videostreamingsettlement.com/, click the Submit a Claim button and submit your form with your Notice ID and PIN. You can also submit the form even if you don’t have the notice ID and PIN after you confirm your eligibility for the settlement. The online mode is the fastest way to submit the claim form, the administrator advises to submit the form online.
- By Mail: You can fill out the claim you received via notice or download the claim form from the official website and mail it to the following address:

In the claim form, you have to fill out, your full name, email address, current US mail address, email address if you have registered on Tubi through another email address; and if you have not registered on Tubi but watched videos on Tubi, you need to fill out your device name on which you have streamed on Tubi and date of using Tubi.
When will you receive the Tubi Class Action Settlement?
After the settlement is approved by the Court in the final hearing, the Tubi class action settlement administrator will process the settlement payment for the valid claimants. The final hearing is scheduled for 04 Dec 2024, so if the settlement is approved, the valid claimants can expect the settlement cash benefit in 90 or 180 days.
The electronic payout will be received early whereas the paper check may take depending on your mailing address. The paper checks will be void after 90 days of its issuance, so class members are advised to stay vigilant of the hearing and write the valid mailing address.
Under the Tubi class action settlement, the claim form is out, the eligible Tubi streaming service users can submit their claim to receive the cash benefit from the $19.99 million fund by 28 Nov 2024.
