Tinder $60.5M Age Discrimination Settlement
A class action lawsuit was filed against Tinder in California in 2015, alleging that people aged 30 and over were charged more for premium subscriptions than younger users, which constituted age discrimination, California’s Consumer Protection Act, and the California Civil Rights Act.
Tinder agreed to a $60.7M settlement to resolve the matter but did not admit any wrongdoing. Although the settlement received preliminary approval from the court, and important dates for the Tinder age discrimination settlement were also made public, they are as follows:
- April 8, 2026: It is the deadline to disassociate yourself from being a class member for those who wish to retain the right to file a separate lawsuit against Tinder.
- August 18, 2026: It is the deadline for class members to select a payment method. Class members will receive payments automatically; they do not need to submit any claim forms, as there is no provision for it. They simply need to select a payment gateway (preferred direct deposit) and provide their banking details.
- August 18, 2026: On this day, the Court will hold a fairness hearing to determine whether the proposed settlement is sufficient to benefit class members. Attorney fees and administrative costs will also be determined on this day.
Who will get a payout from the Tinder Age Discrimination Settlement?
You will get a payout from it if you have purchased Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold in California on or after March 2, 2015, when you were older than 29, or the purchase occurred on or after March 2, 2016, when you were older than 28.

Additionally, it is mandatory that you have received a notice from the settlement administrator via mail or postmark that carries the Claim ID and PIN. If you haven’t received a notice but believe you qualify to receive payments, you’ll need to submit a verification form by providing the following details:
- Your date of birth
- When and where you bought subscriptions
- Proof of payment (like receipts or statements)
- A copy of an ID
Those who received a settlement notice must submit a payment selection form, as receiving a payment without one is a little risky; the settlement administration will attempt to release payments for such individuals using details available through PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle.
How much will be received from the Tinder Age Discrimination Settlement?
The total fund for the Tinder age discrimination settlement is $60.5M, but this entire amount will not be distributed among the class members. Out of this, $20M will be deducted as attorney fees, $300,000 as attorney expenses, $350,000 as administration costs, $20,000 for the class representative, and the remaining amount will be distributed among the class members.

The distribution of payment among the class members will be on a pro data basis; that is, the more a person has spent on the purchase, the bigger the plot he will get. There is no estimated figure as to how much money one can get, but some reliable media sources have mentioned that a class member can get a maximum of $500.
When to expect the Tinder Age Discrimination Settlement payout?
The payout for the Tinder age discrimination settlement will start after the final approval, as the fairness hearing is going to take place on August 18, 2026; it is highly expected that the court will grant final approval for the settlement in September 2026.
If the settlement gets final approval as per expectation without any appeal, the payout will start within 90 days; in case of any appeal, one will have to wait up to 6 months or even more for getting the payout from the Tinder $60.5M age discrimination settlement.
