This settlement will distribute a total of $626 million to compensate residents and others affected by the crisis that began in 2014. This crisis started almost 11 years ago when Flint’s drinking water source switched to the Flint River. 

Later, due to improper treatment of the more caustic river water, microscopic particles began to flake off the inside of some water service lines and find their way into the water supply at thousands of residences and businesses throughout the city. Now, current and former residents of Flint who suffered from severe lead poisoning are waiting for compensation.

Flint Water Settlement Payout Amount 2025 

The total settlement fund is based on the contributions from various entities such as the State of Michigan, Flint insurance companies, and McLaren Flint Hospital and Rowe Professional Services. 

The state of Michigan agreed to pay a $600 million settlement fund to resolve this class action in 2021. While $20 million was later added by Flint insurance companies and later, $6 million by McLaren Flint Hospital and Rowe Professional Services. 

Veolia North America has agreed to add $53 million more to the settlement fund on 21 February but the court has not approved it yet so it can’t be added to the settlement fund until the court decision. The payment will be made through direct deposit or either paper check. 

If the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is found to be responsible for any damages related to the Flint River water switch, then it might contribute more to the settlement fund. The per person payout is unknown yet so it will be confirmed after any official announcement.
