CDCR Data Class Action Settlement Payout
The federal court granted final approval for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation settlement on 13 June 2025. If you have filed your claim form for the CDCR Settlement before the deadline of 14 February 2025, you must be waiting for the payment.
According to the update, the final approval of the settlement was effective from 17 August 2025. The settlement administrator has begun the work for payment distribution, so the valid claimants can expect the payment to be issued by the end of September 2025.
You will receive the cash payout from the $1.8 million settlement fund, so depending on the mailing address, the date of receiving the payment may vary from person to person. According to reports, the data breach has affected around 1.4 million people’s personal and health information.
What was the CDCR Class action lawsuit about?
CDCR discovered the data breach in January 2022 and took immediate action to secure the network and investigate the unauthorized access to the users’ data on the CDCR platform, which provides healthcare, family resources, and victim services online.
The plaintiffs filed the lawsuit against the CDCR platform and alleged that the platform had failed to protect their personal information in the January 2022 data breach from unauthorized access. According to the lawsuit, the personal and health information of the users was compromised when they tested for COVID-19 in June 2020 and January 2022.
The claims say the data breach also exposed the mental health information of some users. The CDCR does not admit any wrongdoing, but decided to resolve the lawsuit with a settlement fund of $1.8 million.
How much will you receive under the CDCR class action settlement?
The CDCR will pay $1.8 million in the settlement fund, where the fund will be first used to cover the litigation costs, service awards for the class representative, and settlement administration costs, attorney’s fee & costs, and other court-approved expenses.
If you have received the Postcard notice and are a class member, you will receive the settlement share payment, whereas if you do not receive the notice, you must file the claim form to receive the payment.
The cash payment for individuals is not estimated or determined yet; however, it would depend on the number of claims filed, net settlement fund, and other factors, hence keep an eye on the mailbox to receive the payment as it will be processed by the end of this month.
What to do if you do not receive the CDCR settlement payout?
The settlement administrator updates say the payment will be distributed by the end of September 2025. What if your name or contact information changes?
If your contact information has changed from the information you filed in the claim form or from the Postcard notice, you must immediately inform the settlement administrator about the change in your email address or mailing address to receive the compensation on time.

Since we are near the end of September 2025, we advise you to use online methods, such as email or calling the administrator about the change in information; otherwise, you could miss your payments.
