Canadian Packaged Bread Class Action Settlement
The Loblaw and George Weston companies will pay the $500 million settlement in the national class action lawsuit. The lawsuit claims the Loblaw Companies Limited and its parent company, George Weston, had participated in the industry-wide packaged bread price fixing.
The price fixing has affected consumers for more than a decade, from 2001 to 2021, and the customers have paid more than they should due to the coordinated price hike. The Ontario Superior Court has approved the settlement, and the Quebec court in June 2025.
The claim process officially began on 11 September 2025 for the eligible residents, and it will remain open till 12 December 2025. So, if you find yourself eligible to receive the compensation, you should file the claim before the deadline.

Who can claim the Canadian Bread Settlement?
You can check the Canadian bread settlement class member eligibility conditions to claim the payout below:
- You should be living anywhere in Canada, except Quebec, on 31 December 2021.
- You purchased the packaged bread products for personal use between 2001 and 2021, but the product is not limited to bagels, English muffins, pita, buns, bagged buns, rolls, naan bread, wraps, tortillas, and English muffins, but not frozen bread.
Exclusion:
- If you are under 18 years of age or opt out of the settlement, you cannot claim the settlement.
How much can you receive under the Canadian Bread Settlement?
The $500 Canadian bread settlement will resolve the lawsuit for the defendants, Loblaw and George Weston. $96 million from the settlement fund will be distributed to the class members through the 2018/19 Loblaw Card program, if they have previously received the $25 Loblaw card.
The settlement administrator will use the settlement fund for settlement administration and other purposes. As per the distribution rules, 99.5% of the nest settlement fund will be used to settle the payout for the Canadian residents.

How to claim the Canadian Bread Settlement?

- Online Claim: You can file the Canadian Bread Settlement electronically in the following steps:
- Go to the Canadian Bread Settlement website at https://www.canadianbreadsettlement.ca/
- Next, click the Submit a Claim option, and you should enter the claim ID and access the claim form.
- Next, you should fill out the claim form, submit it online without any evidence of purchase, as no proof of purchase is needed, and successfully file it.
- Offline: If you cannot file the Canadian Bread settlement online, you should contact the administrator at 1833-419-4821 and ask for assistance.
When can you expect your Canadian Bread settlement payout?
The Canadian Bread Settlement administrator will start the distribution of the funds after the claim deadline has passed. The distribution to the valid claimants will take six to 12 months, so you can expect the payment around June to August 2026.
The administrator will process the bread settlement payout through the Loblaw Card program, or through the following ways:
- E-transfer by Email, where you have to accept the payment within 30 days of issuance.
- Check where $2 will be cut from the payout for the additional cost of the cheque.
