Via US State Department’s website
- Navigate to the web portal of the Department of State, which is accessible at https://travel.state.gov/.
- Look for an option that reads ‘Track my application status’ or ‘Track my renewal application status’ and hit on it.
- Find an option of ‘Online Passport Status System’ under the section of the Applied In Person or Renewed by Mail, click on it.
- Check the ‘Privacy and Computer Fraud and Abuse Acts Notices and Disclaimers’ and hit the Submit button.
- At the end, you will be asked to enter your Last Name, Date Of Birth, last four digits of Social Security Number, fill in the asked credentials correctly and hit the Submit button after filling Captcha.

- To track US Passport application status, one has to dial 1-877-487-2778 or 1-888-874-7793 between 08:00 am and 10:00 pm (ET) between Monday to Saturday, excluding the federal holidays.
Once you have gone through the above mentioned steps, you will successfully have checked that your US passport application is In-Process, Approved or Mailed.
If you find out that your US passport application status is In-Process, then it will take 6 to 8 weeks to be approved. Those whose application status is showing as approved must know that that will be mailed within 2 to 3 weeks and delivered to one’s residential address within 10 to 14 days, highly it takes 90 days in some cases.
What if a US Passport is not received within 90 days?
A US passport usually takes 10 to 14 days to get delivered once it is mailed, if after processing your passport, you don’t receive it within the expected timeline, then you have to contact the National Passport Information Center and fill out a DS-86 form. If your passport is not delivered after 90 days, then you have to reapply and pay the processing fees again.
