How to choose IRS Direct Deposit while filing a return?

Detailed guide on how to choose Direct Deposit for your IRS refund in 2024:

Gather your information:

  • Bank account details: You’ll need your routing number (usually nine digits) and account number (typically between 10 and 12 digits).
  • Account type: Decide whether you want your refund deposited into your checking or savings account.

Select Direct Deposit during tax preparation:

  • Filing electronically: If you’re using tax software or filing online, you’ll see a section dedicated to Direct Deposit during the process. Look for prompts like “Refund Method” or “Direct Deposit Information.”
  • Paper return: If you’re filing a paper return, Form 1040 includes dedicated lines for your bank account information on page 2.

Enter your bank information accurately:

  • Double-check your routing number and account number for accuracy.
  • Verify the account type selection matches your chosen account.
  • Proofread carefully before submitting your return.

Consider splitting your refund (optional):

  • Some tax platforms and paper forms allow you to split your refund across multiple accounts.

Confirm your selection:

  • Review your Direct Deposit information one last time before submitting your tax return, whether electronically or on paper.
  • Keep a copy of your return and bank information for reference.

  1. Receipents do not have to file. But we file anyway. For credits or transcripts 1048-T, then prefer an amendments. Which I never seen it or checking the status of either one. USA free tax. My status was always an error of some kind. Receiving papers from IRS. Saying that having a spouse on my return. Answering questions on the return was for. Status: single, individual 1040, 1099. Only forms needed. Then received a refund of 13.00 dollars. Did not have bank account. They said I have received it. No forwarding mail. My address have been the same for the past 11 years.
