Eligibility Criteria for Workfare Income Supplement (WIS)

  • If you are married, neither you nor your spouse jointly own more than one property, and neither spouse’s assessable income exceeds $70,000 from the previous year of assessment.
  • You must possess just one property.

How to apply workfare income supplements?

If you’ve worked as both an employee and a self-employed person in Singapore, The Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) applies to you based on the eligibility criteria. 

The cash portion of WIS is credited to your PayNow NRIC-linked bank account if you have one. If you’re self-employed, you’ll receive one WIS payout per year for work done in the previous year. The earliest payment is usually by the end of April.

What is the payment distribution process for  WIS?

If you are self-employed ninety percent will go into your MediSave account, and ten percent will be paid to you in cash. In the event that you are employed, you will get 60% of your WIS in CPF contributions and 40% in cash. 

Officials will deposit the cash portion into your bank account linked to your PayNow NRIC if you have one.

If not, the funds will be transferred to the bank account you have linked to your government benefit registration, or, if you haven’t linked a bank account with GovCash, to your GovCash account. After entering into the e-Services, you can update your bank account information if necessary.

  • Check Eligibility: Ensure that you meet all the eligibility criteria for WIS. Confirm that you are a Singapore Citizen, at least 30 years old (or a person with disabilities), and Verify that your property’s annual value is $21,000 or below (from Work Year 2024) and that you don’t own more than one property.
  • Wait for Payment: WIS payments are usually made annually, around August. Keep an eye on your bank account or CPF statements during that time.
