OTB Payment Dates for 2025: When will you get the payout in April?

The Ontario government offers the Ontario Trillium benefit, which is the combined payment of the Ontario Sales Tax Credit, Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit, and Northern Ontario Energy Credit. The Canada Revenue Agency handles the OTB payments on behalf of the Ontario province. 

The Ontarians who meet the eligibility criteria of this government benefit and claim the benefit receive the monthly benefit from the CRA. The OTB recipients wondering about the payment dates for 2025 can check the payout date and other relevant details here. 

OTB Payment Dates for 2025

The Ontario province offers the OTB tax-free payout to help the low to moderate income earner in managing their living expenses as they deal with energy bills, property costs, and sales tax. Through this benefit, the government tries to provide financial relief to the Ontarians and help them pay energy costs and others. 

As mentioned earlier, it is the combined payment of three credits – Ontario Sales Tax Credit (OSTC), Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit (OEPTC), and Northern Ontario Energy Credit (NOEC). As per the CRA payment rules, the annual payment is divided by 12 to make it monthly payments. 

The OTB recipients receive the payout on the 10th of each month, unless it falls on a weekend or a public holiday. So, based on OTB payment rules, the recipients can mark the following OTB payout dates for 2025:

Who will receive the Ontario Trillium Benefit? 

The Ontarians who meet the eligibility criteria of any of three credits of the Ontario Trillium Benefit would be eligible to claim the benefit. The Ontarians wondering about the OTB eligibility can check the three credits following eligibility conditions:

  • OEPTC:
  • The Ontario residence should be 18 years or older and must be living in the province on 31 December 2023;
  • You have a child who is living with you or previously lived with you;
  • You are married or previously married or you have or had a common law partner;
  • You have at least one of the following conditions in 2023:
  • You have rented or your landlord was required to pay the property tax of your primary residence;
  • You have paid the property tax for your residence, which you are living in, in 2023;
  • You have lived in a public care home for a long time and paid for your accommodation there;
  • You were living in a reserve property and paid for your energy consumption. 
  • NOEC:
  • You are a Northern Ontario resident, aged 18 years or older, have or had a child living with you, or have or had a spouse/ common law partner.
  • You have at least one of the following conditions in 2023 to be eligible for NOEC:
  • You have paid property tax for the place you are living, whether it is rented or your own;
  • You have lived in a public care home for a long time and paid for your accommodation there;
  • You were living in a reserve property and paid for your energy consumption.
  • OSTC:
  • You must be an Ontario resident before 01 June 2025, aged 19 years or older, have or had a child living with you, or you had or have a spouse/common-law partner.

What’s the credit amount of Ontario Trillium Benefit?

The Ontario Trillium Benefit can be different for claimants depending on the credit they qualify for and claim. According to the current fiscal year, July 2024, June 2025, the Ontarians can calculate their OTB payout based on the credits amount, which depends on various situations. 

The Ontarians can get the idea of their OTB payout by knowing the payout amount of each credit, such as:

  • OEPTC: The Ontarians who meet the eligibility conditions of the OEPTC can get the following maximum credit amount based on their circumstances:
  • $1421 for 65 years or older;
  • $1248 for residence aged between 18 and 64 years
  • $277 for people living in public home care or reserve;
  • $25 for time you lived in university or private school, or designated college residence;
  • NOEC: The Northern Ontarians with families can receive a maximum amount of $277, whereas the singles can receive the maximum credit of $180.
  • OSTC: The Ontarians qualifying for the OSTC can receive up to $360 and they can receive an additional $360 for the dependent child under 19 years of age or for the spouse/ common law partner. 

How will you receive the OTB payout for July 2024 – June 2025?

The Ontarians qualifying for the OTB assistance will receive the benefit for the 2024 year through the following ways:

  • If your calculated payment is over $360, the recipients can select whether they wish to receive the payment every month till June 2025, or they wish to receive the total annual payment in June 2025;
  • If your overall OTB payment is less than $360 or $360, you must get the single payment through CRA in July 2024;
  • If your payment is more than $2 or lower than $10, it will be raised to $10 and processed to you in a single payment ;
  • If your overall OTB payment is less than $2, the CRA will not process any payment for the residents considering the small amount.  

What to do if you do not receive your OTB payment on time?

The CRA processes the OTB payment usually on time, however, if by any chance you missed your payment, you should follow the below instructions:

  • You should check your direct deposit bank account, see if it is active or not, and if you receive the physical check, you should see if your mailing address is updated in the CRA record is correct.
  • You should wait for five days before contacting the CRA to inquire about your OTB payment. You can contact the CRA at 1-877-627-6645 or visit the nearby CRA office. 

The CRA will process the next OTB monthly payment on 10 March 2025, if you have selected the monthly payment. The Ontarians should check their CRA account to know about their upcoming payment and set a reminder of the payments.
