NZ Superannuation Payment Dates 2024
The NZ citizen receives Superannuation payments through a government-aided pension scheme. The NZ Work and Income department manages the Superannuation benefit and processes the eligible payment each month fortnightly on Tuesday.

Who receives the NZ Superannuation payments?
The Kiwis who meet the following eligibility requirements of the NZ Superannuation payments can apply and receive the bi-weekly NZ Super payments:
- Your age should be 65 years or above.
- You are either an NZ citizen, NZ permanent resident, or hold an NZ residence class Visa.
- You must have lived in NZ for a certain number of years based on your DOB from age 20, however, the stay does not need to be consecutive. The living year in NZ must include five years from the age of 50 in the total count.
- You are ordinarily an NZ resident, Niue or Tokelau, or the Cook Islands. When you do not meet the residency criteria, you can apply when you live in the above NZ realm country or a country that holds a Social Security Agreement (SSA) with NZ, such as Canada, Ireland, Australia, South Korea, Malta, Greece, Denmark, United Kingdom, Jersey, the Netherlands, and Guernsey.
NZ Superannuation 2024 Payment Amount
As we have mentioned earlier, the NZ superannuation payout has increased due to the annual general adjustment from 1 April 2024. However, the NZ super payment may differ for recipients depending upon their age, living situation, relationship, and which tax code they use.

How to apply for the NZ Superannuation payments?
The NZ citizen who meets the NZ superannuation criteria can apply for the NZ Super payments on the following conditions:
- You are 65 years old, or
- Your 65th birthday is coming in the next 12 weeks
The NZ recipients can apply for the NZ super payments online unless they live overseas via the following procedure:
- You would need to get a 9-digit client number which the Work and Income issues when you first contact them. If you don’t have the client number, you can request it on the official website at https://www.workandincome.govt.nz/online-services/superannuation/index.html
- Next, you have to register for a MyMSD account or log in to the account if you have already done this with your client number and email address to access the application form.
- Fill out the NZ super application form with your IRS number & tax code, bank account details, and partner details (if any).
- Now, submit the online application form on the portal to receive an application reference number, you will also get a confirmation email on your email address for submitting the online application.
- After this, you will be either asked to complete the MyMSD obligations or send the supporting documents with the submitted application to the authority.
- When your application is approved for the NZ super you may receive the SuperGold Card for discounts and other services.
What are the obligations to continue receiving the NZ Superannuation payment?
The NS recipients should follow the below obligations to continue receiving the NS Super payment:
- The recipients must inform the authority of any changes in address, tax code, or relationship to receive the applicable payment.
- The recipients should inform the authorities about the other income sources as they affect the NZ super payments.
- If your partner becomes eligible for the NZ super, you must fulfill the obligations for partners to continue receiving your NS Super payments.
