The 2024 military pay chart is up 5.2% from last year and is a significant raise for active duty service members. Military pay accumulation begins the very first day of initial training whether basic training or boot camp. Your pay is directly deposited on the 1st and 15th of every month.

The military pay chart for 2024 contains an increase of 5.2 percent over the previous year: this is likely to bring a very meaningful compensation boost to currently serving members of the active duty force. Military pay, starting from day one, begins during initial training, such as basic training or boot camp.

Payments are direct-deposited into your account on the 1st and 15th of every month. If these dates fall on a weekend or holiday, your pay will be deposited earlier. Key Components of the Military Pay Chart

The military pay chart is an illustrative table where the rank, rank grade, and time in service are used against the basic pay of a military person. It is a simple tool for calculating salaries of active military members.

The military pay chart includes the following components:

  • Rank: Enlisted Ranks
    • Enlisted ranks are from Private (E-1) to Sergeant Major (E-9).
    • Warrant Officer Ranks: These are the technical specialty ranks, from Warrant Officer, W-1, to Chief Warrant Officer, W-5. Commissioned Officer Ranks: From Second Lieutenant, O-1, to General, O-10, these are the leadership positions.  

Pay Grade  

  • Every rank listed above is further fragmented into pay grades. Pay grades simply denote that the person, at some given point in time, has reached a next higher level of some sort of seniority or experience in that particular rank. 
  • A pay grade has a corresponding salary scale. The higher the pay grade is, the higher the salary scale is.  

Basic Pay  

  • This is the basic component of the pay chart.
  • Base salary is what is given at a certain rank and pay grade. It increases with time in service and is also inflated yearly, considering other economic factors.

Time in Service

  • If someone has served in the military for a longer period, there likely will be a higher pay grade and salary attached to this service. 
  • Most probably, time is considered in years. Many times, people are given appraisals connected to a certain year gap.

Location

  • Pay is distinguished from military pay based on the location of duty.
  • Duty stations in high cost-of-living areas may include an add-on allowance in their salary offer to help compensate for the added costs of residing in that area.

Special Pay Options

  • Some jobs or duties may be eligible for extra pay or bonuses.
