Canada Carbon Rebate Payment Dates

The Canada Carbon Rebate which was formerly known as Climate Action Incentive was aimed to offer some financial relief to the people with federal pollution pricing. The payment offered through the program is tax-free to the beneficiaries, so the recipients do not have to worry about taxes.

Under the Canada Carbon Rebate, the CRA disburses the payment quarterly on the 15 of April, July, October, and January, however, if the 15 of the payment month falls on a public holiday or weekend, the agency will make the payment before 15 on the last working day. Based on the CCR payment rules, the recipients can check the following 2025 payment dates:

  • 15 Jan 2025
  • 15 Apr 2025
  • 15 July 2025

The Canadians also receive the rural supplement with their CCR basic amount based on the province they reside in.

How much will you receive through the CCR?

The Canada Carbon rebate depends on the province you reside in and your family situation. As we have said the CCR has two components, such as the base amount and the other being a rural supplement. The rural supplement is to help the rural residents with their energy costs and offer some financial relief to them.

The rebate payment depends on the base year, for 2024 the base year was 2023, hence the payment for Jan 2025 will be based on the 2023 base year. As per the CCR, the Canadians can check the base amount and rural supplement based on province and family situation below:

Family Members AB SK NL NS ON NB MB PEI
Individual $225 $188 $149 $103 $140 $95 $150 $110

Rural  $22.50 $18.80 $14.90 $10.30 $14 $9.50 $15

Important Note: Prince Edward Island’s rural supplement is included in the base amount, hence no separate rural supplement exists.

The Canadian government has increased the rural supplement to 20% of the base amount earlier this year from 10% of the base amount. Based on the above CCR payment table, Canadians can estimate their quarter payment depending on their province and family situation.

The payout amount may change from April 2025, if the government plans to increase the CCR benefit from 2025.

What affects your CCR payout?

The CCR payout can be changed depending on the many factors that every CCR recipient should be aware of, such as:

  • Your CCR quarterly payment can change if your family situation changes, such as marital status, a new child in the family, the death of a recipient, or a child crossing 19 years of age.
  • Your CCR rebate amount changes if you move to other applicable provinces, it can stop also if you move to the province where the CCR payout is not available.
  • If you have any debt with CRA, your CCR payout can be used to recover the debt, which may reduce your payment. The recipient should know the CRA does not offer interest to the beneficiaries in underpayment.

What should you do if you do not receive the CCR payment on the due date?

The CRA will process the CCR payment on the 15 of the payment month, if, by any chance you do not receive the CCR payout on the due date, you should contact the CRA to inquire about the payment as it can happen due to many reasons, like bank account is invalid, family situation changes, etc.

The CRA advises the CCR recipient to wait for at least 10 business days before contacting the agency to inquire about the payment as it can be some internal issue like the bank may take time to show your payment.

After 10 business days, if you do not receive the rebate, you can contact CRA through My Account, visit the nearby regional CRA office, or call 1800 959 8281 and ask the assistance from the officials.

The Canadian government will receive the last quarterly payment for 2024 year on 15 Jan 2025, from April 2025, they will receive the payment for the next financial year.
