  • Objective: To incentivize the installation of approved battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Queensland homes, promoting clean energy adoption.

BESS Suitably Installed

An approved BESS is suitably installed if:

  • Connected to a 5kW or more suitable solar PV system installed at or near the premises.
  • Installation and connection are performed by an approved installer.
  • Connection allows both systems to operate together.

Battery Booster Rebate Scheme Income Thresholds

The scheme offers two tiers of assistance based on your taxable income (or combined taxable income with your spouse):

  • $66,667 or less: If your taxable income falls within this bracket, you are eligible for the maximum rebate of $4,000.
  • Over $66,667: For those with a taxable income exceeding $66,667, the scheme still offers a substantial rebate of $3,000.

Battery Booster Rebate Scheme Application Process

The application process involves two stages:

Conditional Approval:

  • Submit a conditional approval application in the approved form.

  • If your income determines the assistance amount, provide a declaration and the income earner’s tax assessment notice.
  • Submit a tax invoice showing the purchase and installation of the approved battery system.
  • Respond promptly to any requests for further information from the authority.

Battery Booster Rebate Scheme Benefits

The Battery System Rebate Scheme offers several benefits to eligible applicants:

  • Financial Assistance: The scheme provides a rebate of up to $4,000, significantly reducing the upfront cost of installing a battery system.
  • Increased Energy Security: BESSs store excess solar energy, allowing you to use your own energy during power outages, enhancing your energy security.
  • Reduced Electricity Bills: By consuming more self-generated solar energy, you can lower your reliance on the grid, potentially leading to reduced electricity bills.
  • Environmental Benefits: BESSs contribute to reducing carbon emissions by promoting the adoption of clean solar energy.

Note: Applications for assistance must be submitted within 90-120 days of receiving conditional approval.

Determining Your Battery Booster Rebate

The factors affecting battery booster rebate:

  • Gather your latest tax assessment to confirm your taxable income.
  • In some cases, the “income earners” tax information may determine your rebate if the system primarily benefits their energy usage.
  • If married or in a de facto relationship, combine both your incomes to determine eligibility and rebate amount.

Impact of Income Tiers:

  • Lower income households receive a higher rebate, promoting equity and access to clean energy.
  • Homeowners with higher incomes still benefit from the scheme despite the lower rebate, contributing to the clean energy transition.
