The Alberta provincial benefit, the Alberta Child and Family Benefit, is administered and processed by the Canada Revenue Agency. The benefit was initiated to offer financial support the eligible Alberta households who have dependent children and are struggling with expenses.
The CRA processes the ACFB payout quarterly via direct deposit or mail. The upcoming and last payment for the financial year, July 2024 to June 2025, will roll out in May 2025. The payout is a great help for lower to middle-class families to survive the rising cost of living.
ACFB Payment Date May 2025
The ACFB’s last payment for July 2024 to June 2025 will roll out this month. The CRA government benefits distribution calendar for 2025 states that eligible recipients of the ACFB benefit can anticipate the May 2025 payment on May 27, 2025.
The payout is generally out on the 27th of every month; however, if the payment date falls on a holiday, the payout can be processed on an earlier business day. The upcoming payment for the ACFB program is scheduled to be disbursed for the next fiscal year on August 27, 2025.
Who will get the ACFB payment?
The ACFB non-taxable benefit is offered to Albertans who fulfill the following eligibility requirements:
- The applicant must be a parent to one or more dependent children under 18 years old and living in the province for the year they are claiming the benefit.
- The applicants meet the income criteria, which are based on the dependent child in your family; that is, it can’t be more than $27,024, otherwise, the payout will reduce, and the recipient may get partial benefit till the income limit of $46,191.
- The applicant must file the tax return even when they are not liable to pay the taxes. The Albertans who file taxes would automatically be entitled to the ACFB if their income and other criteria match.
The Albertans who filed taxes and received the Canada Child Benefit do not have to apply for the ACFB; hence, if you wish to receive this benefit, you must complete the CCB application.
ACFB Payout Amount
The province offers the ACFB based on the number of dependent children and the income level of the family, where the payout includes two components – base and working component:
- Base Component: ACFB’s province component is for the lower-income families with dependent children and offers them support even if they do not have employment income.
- Working Component: Households with income over $2760 are eligible for the working component of the ACFB, where the amount of the component increases gradually at a 15% rate for every dollar you earn above the threshold, until the recipient’s amount reaches the maximum limit.
The maximum ACFB benefit rates for people working in FY 2024-25, based on the number of children, are based on the following table:
No. of Children | Base Component | Work Component |
One Child | $1469 | $752 |
Two Children | $2204 | $1437 |
Three children | $2939 | $1847 |
Four or more Children | $3674 | $1982 |
What can affect the ACFB payment?
The ACFB recipients’ payment can be affected due to many factors that every recipient should be aware of to ensure they receive the correct payment:
- If your income is above the threshold between $27,024 and $45,285, your payout can become partial as it starts to reduce, and if it exceeds the $45,285 limit, your ACFB payout may stop.
- If there is a change in the household, such as another child is added to the family, then your payout amount will increase.
- If the child for whom you have been receiving the ACFB payout has now crossed the dependent age, your payment may be reduced or stopped.
- If you or your family moves from Alberta province, your payout may stop as the benefit is for people living in the province only.
The CRA regularly assesses the Alberta households’ eligibility for the ACFB payout, however, the agency advised the residents to inform them of changes that may affect their payment. The agency will add the additional payout if the payout is increased, or send the notice if your ACFB payout is reduced due to the changes, or when you have to return the overpayment.
If you wish to report the changes or have any doubts about the ACFB, you can reach out to the CRA at toll-free number 1-800-959-2809 or the official website of the CRA.
