$967 Check on 31 January for Low Income for Americans: Check whether you will get it or not!

The Social Security Administration will send the Supplemental Security Income up to $967 for the individuals on 31 January 2025 this month for February payment month. The recipient expecting the payment can check every detail here. 

The US federal government offers supplemental security income to US citizens with low income or no income sources at all. The disabled, elderly, and blind people can also receive social security benefits.

The Social Security Administration offers SSI payments to US citizens or the elderly who have low income, no income resources at all, or have disability or blindness that limits their ability to earn enough. The Social Security Administration manages the SSI payment and other social security benefits. 

As per the SSA, social security SSI recipients receive the payout on the first day of the payment month, however, the payment date can shift early, if the payment date falls on a weekend or public holiday. The SSA disbursed the SSI January 2025 payments on 31 Dec 2024 due to a public holiday, now the recipients will receive the February 2025 payment on 31 January 2025 because it falls on Saturday. 

The Social Security payments have been increased from January 2025 due to the 2025 COLA adjustment. The administration made the annual COLA adjustment to ensure the recipients receive the payment that paced with inflation and recipients can cover their cost of living. 

Based on the adjustment, the SSI recipients will receive monthly $967 for individuals, $1450 for couples, and $484 for essential persons.

Who can receive the SSI payment up to $967? 

The US citizen can receive the Supplemental Security Income when they meet the following eligibility conditions:

  • You are a US citizen and have no or little income or resources;
  • You are elderly aged 65 years or older, or you have a disability;
  • People aged 64 or younger with a disability can claim the SSI payment when the disability affects their work for a year or more, results in death, or limits their daily activity. If you are 64 years or younger with a disability you must also earn less than $1550 in a month;
  • The income limit for the SSI payout is $2019 per month for individuals and it will increase for couples and children;
  • The income resource limit for SSI recipients is $2000 for individuals and $3000 for couples. 
  • People in the US with non-citizenship can also receive the benefit when they meet the above eligibility conditions and are in a qualified alien category. 

What changes must you report to receive these payments? 

According to the SSA, the SSI recipients should report the following changes to continue receiving the payments because if overpaid they might have to face the consequences:

  • The SSI recipients should report their monthly wages, income sources, and other payments they received in the month that change from the previous month to the administration.
  • The SSI recipients should report the changes to their living situation, like changes in relationship, marriage, or separation to the administration;
  • The SSI recipients should report the change in their living arrangements, like moving to a new place, being admitted to the hospital, or getting discharged from the hospital, etc. to the administration.

The SSI recipients must report the changes that can affect their SSI payments to the administration for wage changes. You can report it through the SSA mobile wage app or call the administration at +1 866 772 0953. To report the changes in your living situation and arrangements, you must call the SSA at 1 800 772 1213 during business days between 8 AM to 7 PM. 

What to do if you missed the $967 SSI check? 

The SSI recipients generally receive their Supplemental Security Income up to $967 to $1450 on the scheduled payment day, but if they do not receive the payment they should take the following action:

  • You should first check your bank account where you received the SSI payout and see if it is active or not.
  • If you have received the SSI payment through a physical check, you should wait for at least three business days before you contact the Social Security Administration and inquire about the payment.
  • You can contact the Social Security Administration at 1 800 772 1213 and inquire about your SSI payout. People who can’t hear can contact the SSA through the TTY call at +1 800 325 0778 during business days between 8 Am to 7 PM. The SSA can contact the SSA and interact in Spanish, English, and other languages as well. 

How to apply for the Supplemental Security Income?

US citizens who haven’t applied for the SSI benefit can apply for it online on the SSA website with the record of their earnings, eligibility conditions proof, and other relevant documents. The US citizen who meets the SSI eligibility can apply online at https://www.ssa.gov/apply/ssi and complete the SSI application.

After you complete the SSI application, you should wait for some time to authority review your application and verify your eligibility for the benefit. You can also check the SSI application status online and see how much time it will take. 

Once the SSA approves your SSI application, you can expect the SSI payout as per your eligibility from the next month. You must report the monthly wages and changes that happen to your life to receive the payment accordingly. 

The Social Security Administration will disburse the SSI payments for the February month on 31 Jan 2025, so be prepared and check if you have received your payment or not.
